Why does a holding say it is valued at what I paid?

When Nivritee has no market price for a holding, it counts it at what you paid rather than dropping it or guessing — and says so on the row. It shows no gain and no return.

Because Nivritee has no market price for that holding, so it counts it at the amount you paid. That is your own figure rather than a guess, and it keeps the holding in your plan instead of silently dropping it. The row says Valued at what you paid — we have no market price for this, its gain and XIRR show a dash, and it contributes nothing to the return on Investment Performance.

Add holding

The currency comes from the market — a holding on NYSE is in dollars, converted into the plan’s rupees.

The add form, filled in for a listed ETF: what it is, where it is listed, which one, and what you paid.

  • What kind of investment — the type, which decides the markets offered next.
  • Where it is listed — only the venues Nivritee prices are offered.
  • Symbol — called Scheme code, Ticker or ISIN on some venues; pick from the suggestions so the holding can be priced.
  • How many units, Price you paid, per unit and When you bought it — what you paid, which is what the row counts at if no price is found.
  • Add holding saves it.

Illustrative figures — not anybody’s real plan.

Common reasons

  • It is an individual bond. No feed prices individual bonds: the form says so when you choose Bond, and the row says Counted at what you paid — no feed prices individual bonds. This is permanent, not a delay.
  • The symbol was typed rather than chosen. A symbol Nivritee does not recognise cannot be priced, and the form says We do not recognise this one. You can still add it — the row will show what you paid until we can price it.
  • A London or European listing not yet described in Nivritee’s catalogue. These venues quote many lines in pence, so a price is only used once the listing’s currency is known — a missing price is visible, a hundredfold one would not be.
  • A new Indian mutual fund holding. Its price is fetched in the background just after you add it, so it can take a moment to appear.

What to do

  1. Open Investments and find the row.
  2. Check the market and the symbol against the listing you actually hold.
  3. If it was mistyped, remove the row and add it again, choosing the listing from the suggestions, then re-enter its purchases.
  4. If it is a bond, nothing is wrong: it simply stays at cost.

If a price exists but is more than five days old, the row says At the close of that date, the performance table says stale close, and the pointer Stale prices may appear. That usually clears with the next scheduled price run.

See this in your own plan.
