What is the income stability index?
A reading of how steady your income is, from 0 to 100. It suggests your runway — between 1.5 and 3 years — until you set the Years of runway slider yourself.
The income stability index is a reading of how steady your income is, from 0 to 100. Its only job is to suggest how long your runway — the Sustenance rung — should be. Steadier, more spread-out income suggests a shorter runway; a single, variable income suggests a longer one. The suggestion always falls between 1.5 and 3 years.

Illustrative settings. Each card says what a change costs before you make it.
The ladder’s three controls, at illustrative settings. The index sets where the second one starts.
- Sustenance · Years of runway — the control whose starting value the index suggests.
Illustrative figures — not anybody’s real plan.
How it is read today
Nivritee has no month-by-month record of your income to begin with, so the index starts from the shape of the income on your plan. Three things count:
- How spread it is (half the weight) — several sources of similar size read steadier than one source carrying almost everything.
- What kinds of income they are (30%) — a salary reads steadier than a bonus, which is the variable part of pay by definition.
- What would keep coming if a job stopped (20%) — income such as rent that does not stop when you stop working.
How it sharpens
The ladder records one snapshot a month. Once there are six, how much your own income has actually varied starts to count, and its weight ramps up gradually until it carries the whole reading at 24 months. The sentence under the slider changes to say it is based on your own income history, and What stands out may add What your income history says.
What it says on the card
- Beside the Years of runway value, suggested shows while the index’s figure is in use.
- With income entered, the sentence under the slider begins Based on the shape of your income, names how many sources you have, and gives the suggested buffer in years.
- With no income entered: the widest buffer, 3 years, with a note that adding what you earn sharpens it.
- Inside How that was worked out: how many sources, the concentration, and the stability reading out of 100.
See this in your own plan.
