How do I add a life goal?
Under Life goals, add each one-off cost ahead of you with its type, the year it happens and what it would cost today. Nivritee carries it forward to that year at the right inflation rate.
A goal is a one-off cost, not everyday spending: a degree, a wedding, a new roof, a year off. Life goals asks for each at what it would cost today; the projection works out what it becomes in the year it falls due.
- Press + Add your first goal (or + Add another goal).
- Under Goal, choose the type — for example Higher education, Wedding, Health buffer, Caring for a parent, A home, or a big renovation or A big trip or a sabbatical — and give it your own name if you like.
- Enter the Year it happens.
- Enter the Cost in today's money.
- Check Rises at. It is picked from the type; change it only if you disagree.

Money coming in
+ Add money coming inA goal row, with the year, the cost today and the inflation rate it rises at.
- Goal — type and name.
- Year it happens.
- Cost in today's money.
- Rises at — the inflation rate for this goal.
- Cost in that year, worked out for you.
Illustrative figures — not anybody’s real plan.
Why the type matters
The type chooses the inflation rate. Higher education rises at education inflation, a health buffer or caring for a parent at medical inflation, most others at general inflation. Over twenty years that difference is large, so the line under the picker tells you which rate you have just chosen.
Suggestions from your own plan
Under Worth adding, from what you have told us, Nivritee may suggest a child’s higher education (dated to the year they turn 18), a health buffer (dated to the year you stop earning) or a home. Each comes with a year and no cost: nothing is added until you press its button, and the cost is yours to set.
Common mistakes
- Entering the future cost. Enter today’s price; inflation is applied for you.
- A yearly cost as a goal. School fees you pay every year belong in Living expenses; a goal is one payment.
- A year that has already passed, or one further out than the plan reaches. The row says so and asks for another.
See this in your own plan.
