How do I split a shared cost or asset with my partner?

Enter the full amount once, tick Shared between you (or Owned by you) and your partner, and choose who pays or owns more. Nivritee works out each person’s part.

Type the whole amount once — the full rent on the bill, the whole balance of the joint account — and mark it as shared. You never enter a shared cost twice. The control appears on each row once your plan has a partner, while you are in your own view or your partner’s; the Family view is read-only.

  1. Switch to your own view or your partner’s with the plan switcher in the app bar.
  2. On the row, tick Shared between you and your partner (for a cost, loan or goal) or Owned by you and your partner (for an asset or money coming in).
  3. Choose Both equally, You pay more or your partner pays more (or owns more).
  4. For an exact split, use Your part: a percentage, or press Enter as an amount.
  5. Read the line beneath — your part and theirs, in money and per cent.

An illustrative household: Two adults, 38 and 36, two children, earning in Dubai and settling in Pune. One adult earns; the other does not earn today but holds money of their own. Yours + your partner’s = the family plan, to the rupee.

One plan in three views for the illustrative household: yours plus your partner’s equals the family plan.

  • Your plan — only your own money, and your share of anything shared.
  • Your partner’s plan — only theirs.
  • Family plan — the two of you together · read-only.
  • Spending share: 50% each.

Illustrative figures — not anybody’s real plan.

What the split changes

  • In each person’s view, the row counts for that person’s part — half, unless you change it.
  • In the Family view, it counts whole, with a chip saying it is shared and your share.
  • Unticked, a row belongs only to the person whose view you are in.
  • Your figures and your partner’s always add up to the Family figure.

What cannot be split

  • Income is always one person’s. Enter each salary in its owner’s view.
  • A statutory scheme belongs to one person. Each of you has your own copy of every scheme row.
