What are the You, Partner and Family views?

One plan holds a couple. You shows your own money and your share of anything shared; your partner’s view shows theirs; Family puts the two together, read-only.

Once you add a spouse or partner, one plan holds both of you, and you can look at it three ways. You shows only your own money and your share of anything shared. Your partner’s view shows only theirs. Family puts the two together and is read-only: every figure is typed in the view of the person it belongs to, so nothing is entered twice.

How to switch

  1. Press the plan switcher in the bar at the top. It shows whose plan is on screen, such as Your plan or Family plan.
  2. Under My plan, choose You, your partner’s name, or Family.
  3. Every figure on the page changes to that view. In your partner’s view, a line under the heading says Planning for, followed by their name.

Turning the views on

Until there is a partner, the partner and Family rows are listed with “not yet”, and choosing one takes you to where a partner is added. In You & your assumptions, press + Add your spouse or partner and give their age; they can be added whether or not they earn.

Whose row is whose

  • Every row says whose it is: You, your partner’s name, or Shared.
  • A shared cost — the rent, say — is typed once at its full amount with a split, such as 50/50. Each person’s part is worked out for you.
  • Income is never shared: it belongs to the person who earns it.
  • In Family, to change a figure, press Edit your figures or open your partner’s view.

Which view opens

The plan opens on your own view, and on Family once both of your sides have figures in them. If your partner joins with their own sign-in, they land on their own view.

See this in your own plan.
