What does Nivritee not model?

Tax, state pension rules, health premiums that rise with age, long-term care, market randomness, limits on moving money, and property outpacing inflation — each with a workaround.

Nivritee is a year-by-year projection of your own figures. Some things it deliberately leaves out, and it says so on the Retirement Tracker under What this plan does not model, with a way to allow for each one by hand.

Not modelledHow to allow for it
Tax on income, gains and withdrawalsEnter income after tax if you want the plan to reflect what reaches you.
State pension eligibility rulesEnter the pension you expect as income, starting at the age it begins.
Health premiums that rise with ageAdd a cost at medical inflation, or a larger one that starts at a later age.
Long-term careAdd it as a life goal in the year you think it may be needed.
Market randomnessUse the stress tests to see how bad sequences of years change the answer.
Limits on moving money out of a countryKeep money that cannot move freely in its own row, with its own country.
Property prices rising faster than inflationEnter the sale value you expect under money coming in.

Tax, in more detail

Every figure is before tax unless you enter it after tax. The income boxes ask for income before tax; if you would rather the plan reflected what actually reaches you, enter it after tax instead and keep doing so consistently.

Randomness, in more detail

Nivritee does not run thousands of random simulations. A plan’s figures would then change between two page loads. Instead, the stress tests apply named events to your plan — a 2008-style crash, a sustained inflation shock, living ten years longer, your money abroad buying 15% less, and others — and you can tick several to see them together on one line.

What if things go wrong?

Ticked together, they compose into one line drawn against your plan, never replacing it.

Four of the stress tests, as the site draws them, with two ticked.

  • A 2008-style crash, and Your money abroad buys 15% less — ticked.
  • A sustained inflation shock, and You live ten years longer.
  • Ticked together, they compose into one line drawn against your plan, never replacing it.

Illustrative figures — not anybody’s real plan.

What else it does not do

  • Recommend a product or a security to buy or sell.
  • Connect to your bank or broker.
  • Promise anything: every figure is a projected estimate under the assumptions you can see.

See this in your own plan.
