Can I earn in one country and settle in another?

Yes. Say where you earn and spend today, where you will settle, and when you move. Each row keeps its own country, dates and currency, and converts once.

Yes — the plan is built for it. You tell Nivritee where you earn and spend today, where you will be living once you are financially independent, and when you move. The country you settle in fixes the single currency every figure is reported in; each income, cost and loan keeps its own country, dates and currency.

Each row inflates at its own country’s rates and converts once, at today’s rate, before anything is computed. A row with no rate stays in its own units and says so.

The illustrative household: earning in Dubai, settling in Pune, every row in its own currency and converted into INR.

  • Where you earn and spend today: United Arab Emirates.
  • Where you will be living: India — it fixes the plan’s currency, rates and schemes.
  • When will you move to India? When I stop working, at 55.
  • Each row with its own place, start, end and currency — Salary in AED, Living in Pune in INR starting at the move.

Illustrative figures — not anybody’s real plan.

How to set it up

  1. Open Your Location.
  2. Under Where will you be living once you’re financially independent?, choose the country you will settle in.
  3. Under Where do you earn and spend today?, choose where you live now.
  4. Answer When will you move to …? — When I stop working, At an age, or I already live there.
  5. On each income or cost that applies only before or after the move, open Where & when and set Where, Starts and Ends — for example, Ends: When you move.

What each country decides

  • The country you settle in fixes the plan’s currency, its default rates and the savings schemes it lists.
  • Where you live today is where new income and expense rows start, and — where Nivritee has typical figures for it — what today’s spending is compared with.
  • A row abroad rises at its own country’s prices until it ends. The life after the move is priced where you will live it.
  • The financial freedom index still compares you with households in the country you will settle in, and the card says which.

See this in your own plan.
