How do I apply a suggestion from Niv?

When Niv suggests changing one of your ages or assumptions, press Apply suggestion under her answer. The value is set and you are taken to You & your assumptions to see it.

Sometimes Niv ends an answer with a specific change, set out as "Set your independence age to 56" with her reason beside it. Nothing happens until you press Apply suggestion underneath. She cannot change your plan herself, and she is told never to say she has.

What she can suggest

A suggestion is always one field, and only these nine:

  • Your three ages — your current age, your independence age and your planning age.
  • The six assumptions — general inflation, education inflation, medical inflation, income growth, your return while working and your return after you stop.

She cannot set an amount, add a row or touch any other section. For anything else she will tell you where to change it.

Applying one

  1. Read her reasoning. Where possible she runs a what-if first, so the suggestion comes with what it is worth.
  2. Press Apply suggestion. The button changes to Applied so it cannot be pressed twice.
  3. You are taken to You & your assumptions, where the new value is in its box. A rate you set this way counts as your own edit, like one you typed.
  4. Your figures are now out of date. Press Re-generate my plan to see the result.

Is our emergency fund big enough?

You have ₹5.4L marked as your emergency fund, which sits on the Survival rung of your Freedom Ladder. The ladder page shows how many months of essential spending that covers against the target you set.

Niv's panel: the household's question, her answer and the box to type in. When she has a change to offer, it appears under an answer like this one as "Set … to …", with its own button.

  • What I remember — lists every suggestion you applied, with the value it replaced.

Illustrative figures — not anybody’s real plan.

Undoing it

There is no separate undo, because the change is an ordinary edit: type the old value back into the box. The record in What I remember shows what it was, as "You set … to … (was …)". That record is also what Niv reads next time, so she knows what you actually did rather than what she suggested.

See this in your own plan.
