How do I fix an action item?

Press the button on the item: Break this down opens a short form of separate lines; Open takes you to the section that holds the figure. Save, and the item clears.

Every item in the Fix your plan lane and in the full list has one button that does the fixing. What it says tells you where it goes: Break this down opens a short form right under the card, and Open followed by a name — for example Open Loans & Liabilities — takes you straight to the part of your plan that holds the figure. Correct it there and the item disappears, because flags are worked out again from your plan every time.

Breaking a figure down

Housing, day-to-day spending, healthcare, household help, education, lifestyle and travel each have a breakdown form: the one figure becomes a handful of named lines, such as groceries or maintenance, each with its own monthly or annual cadence.

  1. On the Action Items page, press Break this down on the item. The form opens under the card.
  2. Type what you actually spend on each line. A line you have not answered opens empty.
  3. If you do not know a line, the Use typical button under the box shows the typical figure for your country and city before you take it. Pressing it fills the box and records that the figure came from us.
  4. Each line shows a word beside it — Looks right, Worth a look, Worth reconsidering or No comparison — and the form shows These add up to a monthly total.
  5. Press Save breakdown. Your plan is re-run and the panel says what moved: "Saved. Your breakdown changed this number in your plan." with the before and after, or "Saved. Your breakdown is recorded; the total did not move."

If the category had several separate rows, the breakdown gathers them onto one and says which were folded in, "so nothing is counted twice". If the corrected figure turns up a new problem — a higher housing cost pushing your withdrawal rate over a line, say — the panel shows it under This turned something else up. A number moving the wrong way usually means the plan is more honest than it was.

A rung has the money, but not in a form it could use₹30,00,000 of ₹30,00,000. The money is there, but only 90.3% of what this rung needs is in something it can actually use. Runway if income stops, so you never sell your investments at a loss to eat.

Items that point elsewhere

Some items are about figures that already live in a section — a loan with no end date, every income stopping when you stop working, a goal dated in a year that has passed. Their button opens that section, or the Freedom Ladder or Investment Performance page, rather than a second copy of the figure.

When the item does not apply

Press Dismiss on the card (on a category's own page the button reads Not applicable to me). A dismissed item leaves the list and counts as dealt with in your Plan health. It does not come back, so dismiss only what you have checked.
